Boon Lotts Elephant Sanctuary
In 2012, I volunteered at Boon Lotts Elephant Sanctuary in Northern Thailand.
BLES strives to rescue and protect the elephants of Thailand from abuse and ultimate extinction.
BLES allows elephants to live in a natural environment, encouraging them to rediscover their true identity and natural social interaction. Basic skills such as foraging, swimming, scratching and dust baths.
They also offer support and advice to local elephant owners who lack sufficient funds to care for their animals. They are deeply committed to the village community and provide jobs and housing to several mahouts and their families.
Following this trip, I returned to Bangkok with a plan to raise some money for their charity.
I sourced and customised a selection of elephant-themed products at a local market, to sell at a fundraising event. I was proud to share the equivalent of £2000 worth with the sanctuary's owner.
